The Orissa High Court on Monday rejected the
anticipatory bail application of advocate Debashis Panda, who was booked
by the CBI in June 2014 for his alleged commission of offence under
several sections of IPC and the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Scheme
(Banning) Act of 1978.
A single judge Bench of
Justice S. K. Mishra, which had reserved the verdict after completing
hearing on the plea last year, pronounced the judgment on the day.
With the rejection of the plea for the advance bail, the interim protection granted to Panda is also removed.
Panda,
a former additional government advocate (AGA) is accused of criminal
conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery for the purpose
of cheating, using as genuine a forged document and criminal
intimidation by the central agency, which is probing into chit fund scam
in the State.
